Pulsed Corona Discharge Reduction

Reductive plasma treatment for eliminating halogenated pollutants: PFAS/PFOS, chlorophenols, and dioxins.

PFAS/PFOS Dioxins Chlorophenols Halogenated furans Short-chain PFAS

How it works

PCDR uses pulsed corona discharge in a reducing atmosphere to destroy halogenated organic compounds at the molecular level. The high-voltage nanosecond pulses generate reactive plasma species that break carbon-fluorine and carbon-chlorine bonds — the strongest bonds in organic chemistry, responsible for the persistence of PFAS/PFOS and dioxins.

Key advantages

  • Near-complete mineralization of PFAS/PFOS, including short-chain compounds resistant to other treatments
  • Effective even in high-salinity and high-suspended-solids matrices (landfill leachate)
  • No chemical additions required — plasma is generated from the atmosphere
  • Scalable from laboratory to industrial flow rates
  • Can be combined with PCDO for finishing treatment

Target contaminants

PCDR is specifically designed for halogenated persistent pollutants:

  • Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS/PFOS) — including short-chain C4–C6
  • Chlorinated and brominated organics
  • Dioxins and furans (PCDD/PCDF)
  • Chlorinated phenols and naphthalenes

Typical applications

Industry Challenge Result
Landfill operators PFAS/PFOS in leachate >99% removal
Industrial wastewater Dioxins and chlorophenols Near-complete mineralization
Drinking water utilities PFAS contamination Below detection limit
Fire training sites AFFF-related PFAS Full destruction
